Could COVID-19 immunity last decades? Here’s the science.

The body builds a protecting fleet of immune cells when contaminated with COVID-19, and in many individuals, these defenses linger for greater than six months after the an infection clears, based on a brand new research.

The immune cells seem so steady, in actual fact, that immunity to the virus could last a minimum of a number of years, the research authors stated. “That amount of [immune] memory would likely prevent the vast majority of people from getting hospitalized disease, severe disease, for many years,” co-author Shane Crotty, a virologist at the La Jolla Institute of Immunology in California, informed The New York Times, which first reported on the research.
