The fitness coach who asked ex Prime Minister’s daughter Frances Abbott to marry him just two weeks after meeting her has given a sweet update about their relationship five years later.
Sam Loch met Frances in November 2017 and proposed to her a fortnight later while she was putting peas into the freezer, before the pair tied the knot on Valentine’s Day 2018 only three months after they first met.
Since then, competitive weightlifter Sam and Frances have had a baby boy, Ernest, in July 2021 and the couple lived in Oregon in the US, before moving back to Sydney, where Frances teaches yoga.
Sam posted on Instagram on their five-year anniversary: ‘It’s a bold move asking someone to marry you two weeks after the day you met and it’s incredibly brave to say yes and follow through.
‘I trusted my gut enough to ask, which was the best decision of my life. Five years later, we’re still going strong.’
Sam added: ‘Thanks for saying “are you serious?”, then “of course” and eventually “I do”‘.
He accompanied his post with a photo of the couple from their wedding ceremony in 2018 showing off their wedding bands.
Sam and Frances were legally married at a registry office on Valentine’s Day 2018, before they celebrated with their friends and family including the former prime minister Tony Abbott, at Sydney’s exclusive Palm Beach in April.
Barefoot on the sand, the now 31-year-old bride looked chic in a white two-piece floral outfit while her 39-year-old groom rocked a Hawaiian shirt for the special occasion.
Staying with the casual trend, the couple’s bridal party followed suit by also wearing slides on their feet as they cheered on the married duo.
The idea to wear slides came from Sam – as Frances shared a photograph of her bridesmaid’s slide, with the hashtags: #thebestdayever #bestideaever #itwashisidea #happiestgirlintheworld.
Frances first announced the couple’s whirlwind romance and subsequent engagement via Instagram with a series of couple snaps taken in a photo booth.
‘Two weeks was all it took to know that forever with you was a mighty fine idea,’ the fitness devotee wrote.
Sam confirmed the news with a selfie of the pair captioned ‘With the soon to be Mrs Loch’.
