Leaders in the Yoga Community Speak Out Against QAnon Conspiracy Theories

QAnon, the viral pro-Trump conspiracy concept alleging that world is run by a band of satan-worshipping pedophiles, is gaining steam in the yoga and wellness neighborhood.

On social media, some lecturers and influencers are posting QAnon-related messaging—though it would not all the time explicitly point out QAnon by identify. On pastel backgrounds and in fairly fonts they name COVID-19 a hoax, encourage gun possession, warn about human trafficking, and have fun Donald Trump as a “light worker” in his quest to “save the children.”

Yoga lecturers together with Hala Khouri and Seane Corn—cofounders of the yoga and social justice group Off the Mat, Into the World—started seeing posts like these in their feeds close to the starting of the Coronavirus lockdown this spring. Khouri has mentioned she believes the debunked viral documentary Plandemic, which unfold misinformation about COVID-19, was an entry level to QAnon for a lot of in the wellness neighborhood. (The documentary was removed by each Facebook and YouTube in May.)

In March, movie star OB/GYN Christiane Northrup, MD, started sharing QAnon-related “save the children” messaging, together with movies and memes that disparage vaccines and mask-wearing and encourage mistrust of mainstream media. Northrup additionally shared Plandemic along with her greater than 750,000 followers on social media.
