Planet Fitness’ program allows teens to work out for free this summer

Planet Fitness will again offer the High School Summer Pass program for ages 14-19. Students in this age group can use the gym free until Aug. 31.

“Our High School Summer Pass offers a solution for teenagers to stay active during the summer when school is out and important academic and extracurricular programs such as sports, gym class and after-school activities are in recess,” said Emily Hammons, general manager of Planet Fitness Portland. “Teens will have access to sessions with our Certified Fitness Trainers, as well as access to our Planet Fitness App, with specialized workout options created just for them.”

Several students in the Sumner County area took advantage of the program last year at Portland’s Planet Fitness. A student from Volunteer State Community College, who participated in the program last year, said he was able to lose weight while working out at the gym. Another student from Portland said he worked out every day and went with friends to the gym. He added that the program made him feel better. 

A high school student from Westmoreland said he worked out four times a week and went with friends. He also experienced some weight loss. He added that he enjoyed the program very much. All three students said they would recommend the program to others,

 Sixty-one percent of U. S. Teens face mental health struggles, and Planet Fitness provides a positive outlet for teens to help with those struggles during the summer, and hopefully beyond.

Ninety-three percent of U. S. Teens appreciate how fitness can positively impact their lives and lead to healthier lifestyles. They recognize that the gym and regular exercise can help improve their overall well-being outside of the gym.

This year Planet Fitness is awarding five $10,000 scholarships nationwide for their video submissions via TikTok, describing their High School Summer Pass experience. To enter, teens must tag @planetfitness and use the hashtags #contest and #HSSP23US. Submissions will run until the end of the program on August 31.
