I use coconut oil to take off my makeup. It’s cheap and eco friendly. I use a cleanser right after to take all the oil off. I think that that’s okay?

Proactiv ingredients are TERRIFYING now that I know what they are. Originally stopped using it because of the parabens, but it gets so much worse from there ….

Not to be that person, but the sun is actually closest to the Earth in January, and furthest around now. Doesn't matter what season it is where you live. Common mistake.

Hi Cass! Great video. Unfortunately recommending AHA over BHA during the summer is not a good idea. There have been many studies done comparing the UV sensitivity of BHA vs AHA, one of those studies was done by J Dermatol Sci, and the researched show that AHA actually makes the skin more sensitive to UV damage than BHA. Of course sunscreen is recommended when using any exfoliant. Also the sun is not closer to the earth in the summer the angle is just more direct. Love ya fellow nerd girl!

    Dear Cassandra,

I saw your videos about how you cleared your skin. When I saw it at first, I thought: this is SO much. I will never be able to do all those things. But you made such an impression on me. Unconsciously I was paying attention to all the subjects you talked about in the videos. I bought some products from 'The Ordinary' (niacinamide and salicylic acid) and I began using facewash and tonic without perfume, parabens, and sulfates. My skincare routine went from maximal to minimal. I started using sunscreen EVERY day (perfume free). My face went from an oily surface to a soft and clean, not oily, babyface. But the acne is still there. BUT way less than before. I'm only using the products for a month, so I have to be patient. My skin cells are still renewing. I switched my sunscreen, began to eat more vegetarian (falafel for the win <3) and I am drinking more water than I already did. I graduated and my stress level went down (finally). I'm so sure that my acne will reduce way, way more over the months. Until then I will keep watching your videos. They are so funny and you tell all the information we need.

I just want to thank you só much for sharing your knowledge. I am learning so much. Love you Cassandra.

Gluconolactone could be a good alternative to salycilic acid. It comes from pha acid group. You can use it all year. Doesn't irritate your skin and it makes your skin super soft. It's one of a few things that keep my skin clear.

Another great and informative video! Unfortunately, when it comes to sunscreen new findings reveal that physical is just as bad for the oceans as chemical, and in some case worse.
Definitely recommend you to check out Lab Muffins latest blog post and video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9zVfj8Q2pk She also has a good one on Chemical vs Physical 🙂
I've followed you for quite some time as the severity of our acne was pretty similar, but have to call you out on the avoidance of silicones. They are not pore-clogging and aren't harder to wash off than sunscreen and other makeup, especially when counting on that you should always double cleanse! Silicones aren't heavy either and are very often formulated in moisturizers for combination/oily skin. I avoided them for years, and ironically it wasn't until I introduced them back (together with a more thorough cleansing routine) that my skin actually got better and more balanced and could "breathe". Just wanted to add in my experience with silicones and having acne-prone skin. xx
