Top skincare tips: Alex Pike reveals her hottest hacks for the colder months

Alex Pike has revealed her top skincare tips for winter.

Despite the cold weather, cosmetic nurse and wellness expert Alex Pike has revealed her hottest hacks when it comes to caring for your skin throughout the colder months.

In an interview with Eat Live Escape, the 45-year-old mother of three said that dry skin and diet are two major talking points.

Pick the right moisturiser

With cooler temps leaving the skin dry, Pike suggests a heavier moisturiser for night time.

She also advised beauty lovers to try a night-time routine called slugging, which involves applying an occlusive product — like a heavy moisturiser — before bed to create a protective layer and prevent water loss.

Ease up on the retinoid and acidic cleaners

The wellness guru also recommended scaling back on the heavy hitters in your routine, because the skin’s natural moisture offers protection against outside noise.

Don’t forget SPF

A common misconception — not needing sunscreen in winter.

Pike has suggested to keep the SPF close by, as Australia still produces high UV rays in the colder months.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

“Tackling skin dryness is actually easiest to manage from the inside out,” Pike said.

“It’s very important to keep hydrated. It’s so easy to forget to keep up the water intake when it’s chilly, so supplementing water for herbal teas and hot water and lemon is great to keep up the fluids.

Eat your antioxidants

When it comes to diet, Pike says foods such as blueberries, strawberries, oranges, avocados, kale and spinach are great in creating an antioxidant-rich diet.
