Training Your Brain For Improved Wellness
Brain health is extremely important, playing a crucial role in various aspects of our health. In this week’s edition of Wednesday Wellness, we spoke to Kerry Rudman, the founder of Brain Harmonics, a company that aims to provide alternative therapy by helping the brain balance itself.
In our #WednesdayWellness interview, live on Instagram, @longevity_live, we discussed her experience using neurofeedback to promote better brain health.
Described as helping the brain balance itself, she explains its North American origins, designed in 1968 by Dr. Barry Stuurman. Through his tests, Dr. Stuurman discovered that Hydrazine, an ingredient used in rocket fuel (and was known for making pilots fall ill), had no impact on cats that had neurofeedback administered to them, as opposed to those that didn’t, who experienced seizures.
Neurofeedback: A Non-Invasive Process
Rudman explains how this is a completely non-invasive process with no input. Done only through hearing, where each sound is a different frequency in your head, this treatment helps the brain make connections to these frequency sounds. This makes it suitable for pregnant ladies, the elderly, and even kids, with her youngest participant being 17 months old.
How Long Are The Sessions?
Each session typically lasts for 2–4 hours over a span of 7–10 days for adults. This is essential in keeping the brain awake and ensuring that the new pathways are entrenched into the brain. Depending on your age, these sessions typically last between 1-2½ hours for kids.

This alternative therapy is highly effective in treating various conditions, with brain training being extremely effective in improving sleep patterns. As she explains, about 45% of the global population is not sleeping.
Sleep deficiency is linked to numerous chronic health problems, including high blood pressure, heart disease, and even depression. She shares how her brain training aims to combat this by teaching your brain to go back into deep REM cycles as opposed to light sleep, without requiring any medication, specifically, sleeping tablets, which she sheds more knowledge on.

Brain Harmonics provides a service that shows the potential to not only slow Alzheimer’s, but also combat depression and anxiety, and help those dealing with PTSD, through training’s ability to pinpoint trauma through an overall image of the brain.
Rudman also shares her go-to tips for ensuring that both you and your brain remain healthy. From taking deep breaths (right into your diaphragm, as this is a way of connecting to your body), to giving your brain a short break by just admiring nature.
