The Twitter hackers who took over distinguished accounts in an apparent bitcoin scam final week gained entry to the direct messages of 36 of the 130 customers focused within the assault, the corporate mentioned Wednesday.

The hackers pried management from accounts for Joe Biden, Elon Musk and tech corporations like Apple and Uber — utilizing their platforms to submit fraudulent tweets asking for bitcoin.

Of these victims who had their direct messages accessed, just one was a politician — an official within the Netherlands, the corporate mentioned after finishing a evaluate of focused accounts.

“To date, we have no indication that any other former or current elected official had their DMs accessed,” the corporate tweeted from its Support account.

The hack resulted in more than 400 payments value $121,000 pouring into three bitcoin addresses talked about within the scam tweets, in accordance with Elliptic, a cryptocurrency evaluation firm.

Twitter acknowledged that the hackers focused staffers who had entry to inside instruments and techniques. One worker was reportedly paid off by the hackers to assist perform the unprecedented breach.
