5 Essential Tips To Keep Your Little One Safe And Dry During Monsoon Season

The monsoons bring relief from the scorching summer heat, but also present unique challenges when it comes to keeping our little ones safe and comfortable. We, as parents, must take extra care during this time to protect our children’s health. Here are a few recommendations for keeping your child safe and dry throughout the monsoon season.

Dress Appropriately
Choosing appropriate attire for your child during the monsoon season is essential. Choose breathable, lightweight fabrics that dry fast. Avoid thick or denim clothing since it can trap sweat and make your child uncomfortable. Waterproof or water-resistant jackets and raincoats are suitable for keeping your child dry during sudden downpours. Pack extra clothes when you go out, as sudden rain showers might leave your little one soaking.

Avoid Wet Diapers
During monsoon season, babies tend to feel discomfort due to wet diapers that may result in rashes. It is essential to regularly check the diapers and change them promptly when wet. To keep your babies safe and healthy, it is recommended to use lightweight, comfortable and high-quality diapers that are chemical-free. Also, use diapers with long absorption hours, that can keep your baby dry and rash-free. Applying a thin layer of diaper rash cream can also help prevent irritation caused by wetness.

Moisturise Baby Skin Frequently
Dry or itchy skin can cause discomfort and make babies cranky. It is important to keep babies’ skin moisturised during monsoon season. Use a chemical-free skincare range with all-natural and soothing nourishing ingredients to keep the baby’s skin soft and protected.

Stay Aware Of Weather Updates
Keep up with weather updates and forecasts to schedule your activities accordingly. Avoid going outside during heavy rain, thunderstorms, or strong winds. If you must go, ensure you have a waterproof cover for your pram or stroller to protect your youngster from rain. Keep an eye out for damp areas and potholes, which can endanger your child. Plan indoor activities like reading, arts and crafts, or puzzles to keep your child involved and entertained during inclement weather.

Maintain Personal Hygiene
Pay special attention to personal hygiene to keep your child healthy throughout the monsoon season. Encourage frequent handwashing with soap and water, particularly before meals and after outdoor play. To prevent dirt and germs from gathering beneath your child’s nails, trim them. Encourage kids not to play in puddles or stagnant water since it may carry hazardous bacteria or parasites. Additionally, ensure that kids are immunised against common monsoon-related ailments such as colds, flu, and waterborne diseases. With the increase in mosquitoes, it is important to protect your baby from mosquito bites using mosquito nets, screens, or repellents while they are playing or sleeping.

Create A Dry And Clean Home Environment
A clean and dry home environment is of the utmost importance for your child’s safety and wellbeing throughout the rainy season. To avoid the spread of germs, clean and disinfect toys regularly. Keep your home well-ventilated to reduce moisture and avoid mould and mildew growth. If required, use a device that dehumidifies the air. Sitting directly on damp surfaces should be avoided because it might cause skin sensitivities or infections. Making your child’s living place clean and dry will help reduce the chance of respiratory problems and other health issues.
With these precautions in place, you can ensure that your child stays healthy, comfortable, and protected during the monsoon season.
