The Sims 4: Infants Update
The Sims 4 introduced a new life stage called Infants in a free base game update for everyone to enjoy. Infants represent the time when babies can take in the world and experience and react to things around them. The infant years are all about discovery, and Sims can interact with their infants in ways that have never been seen before.
With Infants, they added quite a few new items in both build and buy for cosmetic and gameplay purposes. To make sure nothing is missed, this guide outlines everything included in The Sims 4 base game update in Build/Buy mode.
All Sims 4 Infant Build and Buy Items
When an Infant is added to a Sim’s household, players can decorate their dream nursery and prepare for active Infants to their heart’s content. Most of the Build/Buy from the Infant update focuses on decoration, and players got more things for both Newborns and Toddlers. Many items are cohesive and match older designs and color swatches; however, they did include Infant exclusive gameplay items.
Cribs
Cribs are the most significant addition to the game for Infants unless players have the Growing Together Expansion, which adds even more to raising and playing with them. Infants can only use cribs, but some can be upgraded into Toddler sized beds and vice versa. There are also upgrades to make soothing Infants to sleep much easier, such as a mobile playing a lullaby.
Some Infants are content to vibe in their crib, but others detest being set there for any reason. There are many new designs for any build or style and some familiar shapes and colors. The following cribs and beds were added to the base game:
- The Travel Crib by Gordian
- Blandco Contemporary Crib
- Blandco Contemporary Toddler Bed
- Kindermade Kindercrib
- Mini Mission Crib
- Wicker-Work Bassinet
Clutter and Toys
The Sims team also added tons of new clutter items, which have been requested for most packs and new content. Clutter is a great way to fill in a nursery with all the typical items, even if there isn’t any gameplay attached to them. They also added more toys that can be played with across all ages of younger Sims and adults with the Childish trait. The following clutter and toys were added to the base game:
- Baby Care Clutter
- Blandco Baby Wipes
- Stack of Blandco Diapers
- Important Things for Your Baby
- “Deal With It Later” Box
- Stack O’ Baskets
- Moisturization Station by Wicker-Work
- Newborn Gift Basket
- Wicker-Work Diaper Storage
- Cute Critter Basket
- Kindermade Kinderrattle
- Little Squeakheart
- Koalafied Best Buddy
- LaLa The Llama
Furniture and Rugs
Players can place furniture around their homes for their Adult or Infant Sims to enjoy. Most designs are kid-friendly, featuring animals, space, flowers, and more. Simmers also have more rug designs to play with to add some fun to their kids’ rooms and nurseries.
Gameplay with decorative items includes a functional bookshelf that can be hung up on the wall and a new fox lamp. The furniture added consists of the following:
- Blandco Contemporary End Table
- My First Library
- Cute Critter Light
- Kindermade Cute Area Rug
- Baby’s First Rug
Fences and Gates
Build mode only included two things for Infants: a new fence and a gate. However, they introduced a new concept called “Baby Proofing” to accompany these new items. Sims can babyproof all their doors and gates to keep out or contain Infants and Toddlers.
The fences have a more indoor look, which fits more naturally inside homes if players want to use one with a baby gate instead of a door on any of their rooms. The fence and gate include the following:
- In the (Safety) Zone Baby Fence
- In the (Safety) Zone Baby Gate
The Sims 4 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
