AB Fitness opens a new gym in Lugo and reaches nine centers in Spain
AB Fitness grows. The chain of gyms low cost Spanish AB Fitness has inaugurated a new center in Lugobecoming the company’s fourth establishment in Galicia, according to CMD Sports. The investment for the start-up of the new gym has not been disclosed.
The new center of Lugo has 800 square meters and is located in the industrial estate of Lugo (Galicia). After its inauguration, the company has increased the number of gyms it operates in the country to nine. The club encompasses the disciplines of the chain’s gyms, such as cardio, free weight, cross trainingconverging disc machines, directed activities and functional training in suspension, among others.
Likewise, one of the peculiarities of this center is the possibility of accessing the six paddle tennis courts included and operated by Pádel Terra, a club with which AB Fitness has closed a collaboration agreement. Although both companies will independently manage their respective businesses, the two entities will enable a fee for the same price that will offer both the fitness services of the gym and the paddle tennis services that the club has.
AB Fitness enters the paddle tennis sector after the inauguration of the new gym in Lugo
AB Fitness has among its plans open more gyms during the second half of 2023. The company indicates that, if the evolution in the coming months continues the dynamics of the first semester, it will be able to open a new center between October and November, although it has not admitted the location of what will be the chain’s tenth establishment in the country.
The chain is committed to cities with a population between 9,000 and 20,000 inhabitants. Duran has pointed out that “this type of localities have a critical mass that is not interesting for the big chains, with which you avoid their competition and this allows you to make their centers profitable”.
Despite not providing specific data, José Antonio Duran, the company’s CEO, has assured that the first half of 2023, the company has registered “higher sales than in the similar periods of the past 2022, as well as 2021”.
The chain was born in 2001 with the creation of the Abeiro Sports Center, in Lugo. However, its expansion did not come until after 2008. Five years later, its founder, José Antonio Duran, inaugurated his second gym in Lugo, kicking off growth that allowed the company to go from one center to six sports establishments between 2013 and 2018.
