Monsoon is hard on everyone’s skin, especially babies. According to dermatologist Aanchal Panth, during this season, kids tend to develop fungal infections, so taking care of the skin is important. Sweat dermatitis can also be seen due to excessive sweat logging.
Dr Gauri Padmawar, Dermatologist at Ruby Hall Clinic, recommended avoiding standing in direct sunlight with your baby and smartly dressing them so that they feel well-ventilated. “Keep them well hydrated and use plenty of baby-safe sunscreen,” she said.
Panth advised against bathing them with hot water as that can strip their skin off its natural oils, instead use lukewarm water. She also suggested using thin clean cotton towels to wipe. “Dab, don’t rub.”

Padmawar stressed the importance of investing in a wide-brimmed hat and planning your outdoor activities carefully.
Here are some tips to keep in mind to protect your baby’s skin.
Giving a bath each day is not recommended
According to Padmawar, it is not suggested to give your babies a bath every single day. Panth, too recommended, avoiding long baths if skin is dry.
Don’t forget to use warm water, but avoid water hot enough to burn, which will strip their skin. Additionally, remember to wipe their bodies‘ folds like armpits and groin properly after bath, Panth added.
Don’t forget to moisturise
Panth advised applying a thin layer of moisture after bathing your babies to keep their skin healthy and moisturised. But she said to avoid oil massages in summertime, or even hot oil massages.
Consistently change diapers
It is always recommended to change your babies’ diapers consistently, according to Padmawar. Doing that will ensure hygiene and protect their skin, especially if you’ve moisturised it properly. Usage of tight diapers must be avoided, she added.
Don’t use scented products
Padmawar noted that scented products are dangerous for your babies’ skin and must be avoided. You can use unscented powders and moisturisers. But Panth said to remember that powders must be used sparingly, and you must make sure they are not inhaled.
Always use sunscreen
Don’t forget to use baby-safe sunscreen for the safety of their skin. Also, invest in soothing calamine lotion on skin to reduce itching and soothe a mosquito bite.
Dress them in cotton clothing
Avoid denims and dress them in breathable clothing, Panth advised.
