Reasons Why You Gain Weight After Your 20s (And How To Reverse It)

3 min read

The perception that we’re supposed to achieve weight and have much less and fewer vitality as we age is a complete fable!

Somehow, we’ve been taught to accept the concept that it’s regular to placed on a couple of kilos yearly and lose our mobility and strength over time.

But it doesn’t should be like that.

According to analysis, there are 5 the explanation why we achieve weight — and our age just isn’t considered one of them. Ronan Diego de Oliveira, Mindvalley’s Chief of Health & Fitness explains what these 5 causes are and find out how to battle them on this video above.

References to the scientific research talked about:

01:13 –
“Muscle mass decreases approximately 3–8% per decade after the age of 30 and this rate of decline is even higher after the age of 60”

03:04 –
“For an average worker spending most of her/his time in a seated position, occupational NEAT is relatively low and estimated energy costs range up to a maximum of 700 kcal day-1. A comparable person working mainly in a standing position can increase her/his occupational NEAT to up to 1400 kcal day-1”

05:26 –
“Both diet groups were instructed to (1) maximize vegetable intake; (2) minimize intake of added sugars, refined flours, and trans fats; and (3) focus on whole foods that were minimally processed, nutrient dense, and prepared at home whenever possible.”

05:41 –
“Weight change at 12 months was −5.3 kg for the HLF diet vs −6.0 kg for the HLC diet”

06:45 –
The cumulative 6-hour distinction between one prior day stressor and no stressors interprets into 435 kJ, a distinction that might add nearly 11 kilos per yr.

08:23 –
“At 8 weeks Group I caused a significant decrease in weight when compared with the placebo arm and this significant difference in weight reduction continued throughout the study period at both 16 and 24 weeks.”

Great video!! Simple, useful information… For a skinny, over 50 lady, how much strength training do you recommend? Right now I am only doing running twice a week (one long run, max 12km; one track workouts like HIIT, progressions, fartlek..etc). Thank you!!!!

The best decision I ever made was to swap from running to swimming. My metabolism has revved up and I've become toned all over. I'm more fit, healthy and full of energy now than I ever was in my 20s. It's also an exercise that I know I'll still be able to do at 80 or when pregnant. Gliding through the water also feels like meditation and yoga rolled into one 🙂 The secret is just finding an exercise that you really love and connect with and doesn't feel like a chore. That's swimming for me! (still fighting the chocolate addiction though haha)
