Summer Safety Tips For Pets

CHARLOTTE – Summer is a time for outdoor fun and adventure, but it can also be dangerous for our furry friends. Pets don’t sweat like humans do, so they are more susceptible to heat-related health problems.

To keep your fur babies safe this summer, here are some important safety tips:

  1. Make sure your pet has access to shade and clean, cool water whenever they are outdoors. This is especially important during hot days or when exercising.
  2. Be mindful of the pavement temperature when walking your pet outside. Some surfaces can become scalding hot due to direct sunlight, so it’s best to stick to grassy areas where possible or use booties to protect your fur baby’s feet.
  3. Don’t leave your fur baby in the car, even for a few minutes! The temperature inside a vehicle can skyrocket quickly and become life-threatening for pets.
  4. Give your pet regular access to air conditioning or cold surfaces (e.g., tile flooring) to help them cool down.
  5. Limit your fur baby’s exercise routine during hot days and avoid exercising in the middle of the day when it’s the hottest outside.

Following these tips can help ensure that your fur baby stays safe and healthy during the summer months, allowing you to have a fun-filled season together. As always, if you’re ever in doubt, consult your veterinarian for advice.  Your pet’s health and safety should always be a top priority!
