What is Physiogenomics and its benefits for the athlete

The specialist herself describes Physiogenomics as “a science that combines Therapeutic Nutrition, from the point of view of Nutrigenomics, with the characteristic pathologies that attend Physiotherapy consultations.”

“That is to say”, he continues, “we try to improve genetic expression through the system of increasing nutrients and phytochemicals or decreasing those pro-inflammatory foods in order to improve musculoskeletal pathologies with a biochemical origin. Since in the end any pathology or pain has a biochemical component, we try to improve all kinds of symptoms by studying the individuality of the person”.

The specialist assures that “most people, including athletes, have visceral problems and this reduces their performance. Precautions to take

Itziar González de Arriba affirms that Physiogenetics can be applied by everyone. “What is difficult is to guess what are the best guidelines for each person, their genes and their circumstances.”

The recommendation is “above all, note that by eliminating ‘poisons’ the person tends to detoxify, eliminating them from the fat, and this process is like ‘a hangover’ that can last days or weeks. We have to accompany this process so that they are able to eliminate it little by little without this altering their elimination systems: colic does not appear because the body tries to eliminate a stone, for example”.

Likewise, the Physiotherapist highlights that one must “find the balance between what is best and how much can be done in habits so that the person does not feel that they are making an effort, that it is torture. A lifestyle should be sought that provides the person with an optimal quality of life without feeling that they are on a diet. This may mean that the improvement is slower but that the person can maintain these habits and therefore their health, all their lives”.

To help find those healthier lifestyle habits, the specialist and her team have launched the One-Hour campaign. “We try to make people move in a fun way, because physical activity can improve genes even more than diet, so the combination of the two is a very powerful therapeutic tool.
