FRISCO, Texas – There are now two free agents off the board for the Dallas Cowboys, with Tony Pollard being the first in a new deal with the Tennessee Titans. The second is Dorance Armstrong, a talented, homegrown defensive lineman who, according to multiple reports, has agreed to a deal with the Washington Commanders.
Armstrong reunites with former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who won the head coaching job in Washington this offseason.
Joining an NFC East rival guarantees that Armstrong will face the Cowboys at least twice each season.
Armstrong, a former 2018 fourth-round pick out of Kansas, began his career with the Cowboys much more of a rotational shaker.
His snap count skyrocketed behind DeMarcus Lawrence and [en última instancia] Micah Parsons too; and he has become one of the youngest and most talented quarterback shakers in the league.
Armstrong was able to survive two head coaching changes, two special teams coordinator changes and three, yes, three, different defensive coordinators to become and remain one of the most impactful players on both defense and special teams.
He has produced 21 sacks over the last three seasons and many more QB pressures, along with 60 combined tackles and three fumble recoveries; and he has done so despite making just 11 starts in 47 games during that span.
Negotiating a third contract with the NFL, at only 26 years old and with several options (e.g., Dan Quinn in Washington, Aden Durde in Seattle), Armstrong is not only one of the best rotation accelerators in the league, but also a player who helps seed the defense.
His talent is the obvious reason Quinn takes him to Washington with him.
