Acadiana Back-to-School Events for the 2023-2024 school year

ACADIA PARISH:

  • Back to School Seminar & School Supply Giveaway – Sponsored by the Crowley Branch of the National Association of University Women Inc. Backpacks filled with school supplies and gift cards will be given away along with tips for a successful school year. The event will take place at 6:00pm on Friday, August 18th at the Martin Luther King Center Pavilion, 1725 W. Hutchinson Avenue in Crowley. EVANGELINE PARISH:

  • Back to School Supply Drive – Accepting donations until August 12. Drop off at Chataignier Village Hall or Big Poppa’s Cajun Smoke Meat. Items needed: pencils, pens, markers, crayons, colored pencils, highlighters, notebooks, binders, folders, calculators, Clorox wipes, composition books, glue sticks, rulers, erasers, paper, mesh or clear back packs, etc. For more information, contact (337) 655-5004

IBERIA PARISH:

  • Jeanerette Annual ” Back-To-School” Supply Giveaway – will take place Thursday, August 3, 2023, at the King Joseph Recreation Center, from 5 pm – 7 pm. Until All are Gone! All children are welcome to receive school supplies, backpacks, door prizes, youth empowerment!, health & wellness tips & more. JEFF DAVIS PARISH:

  • Back to School Movie Night on Main Street – Kids in Jeff Davis Parish will have the opportunity to enjoy pizza, popcorn, snacks and the Minion movie on August 5 at 7 pm, in Jennings’ Founders Park. School supplies will be distributed to those who need. If interested in donating school supplies, drop off donated supplies at the Jeff Davis Parish Courthouse or Jennings City Hall between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm until August 5.

LAFAYETTE PARISH:

  • Cars and Coffee Lafayette Back to School Drive – Sponsored by Frios. School supplies are being collected from 8am-11am on Saturday, July 22nd at Bailey’s Cigar Room, 115 Derek Plaza in Carencro.
  • Back to School Supply Giveaway – Sponsored by Aetna Better Health of Louisiana in partnership with SWLA Center for Health Services. The annual Back to School Supply Giveaway takes place on Friday, July 28th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at SWLA CHS, 500 Patterson Street. Free school supplies, limit one (1) per child and child MUST be present to receive each item. Free blood pressure checks and glucose screenings will be provided. Vendors will be on site.
  • 8th Annual Mable’s Table Backpack Project – This volunteer event will take place Friday, July 28th from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Grace Presbyterian Church, 510 Roselawn Boulevard. Volunteers will be packing over 300 backpacks and doing many different projects to put in the bags. For more information contact: Stephanie LeBlanc at (504) 909-8866.   • Back 2 School Extravaganza – Sponsored by Representative Vincent Pierre. Taking place at 9:00am on Saturday, July 29th at Domingue Recreational Center, 901 Mudd Avenue. Free haircuts, school supplies giveaway, and vendors will be on hand. More details to come.
  • The Good Fight Foundation Drive thru Giveaway – Taking place Wednesday, August 2nd beginning at 10:00am until supplies last. Max 3 backpacks per vehicle. Pickup will be at Service Chevrolet Cadillac, 1212 Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Click Here for more information.
  • Lafayette City Marshal Reggie Thomas 3rd Annual Backpack Giveaway – Taking place at 9:00am on Saturday, 8/5 at Destiny of Faith Church, 409 Patterson Street. More than 600 clear backpacks stuffed with supplies will be given away. Students must be in vehicle in order to receive a backpack.
  • Back to School Cuts for Kids and Supply Drive – Presented by Sticks. Taking place from 7:00am to 11:00am on Sunday, August 6th at Jay and Lionel Hebert Golf Course, 1121 Mudd Avenue. Volunteers will be handing out binders, paint, pencil boxes, backpacks, glue, scissors, tape, ruler, dividers, and more.
  • Back to School Care Package – Helping kids attending Live Oak Elementary, J.W. James Elementary, Truman Elementary, and Alice Boucher Elementary. Donations can be dropped off Monday – Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Magnolia’s Home Care, 1909 W. University until Tuesday, August 15th. Items needed are: deodorant, lotion, mouthwash, hand sanitizers, sanitary napkins, socks, toiletries, toothbrushes, towelettes, combs, and brushes.
  • Love Our Schools – Back to School Events – Love Our Schools is hosting its annual Serve Day, Saturday, July 29, to give back to Lafayette Parish schools. There are twelve Lafayette Parish schools that will have a serve day that day. Organizers plan on projects from parking lot striping to painting to indoor activities like moving classrooms for principals. Volunteers can register here.
  • Love Our Schools – Back to School Events – Love Our Schools also invites all community members interested in supporting local public schools to attend the CAFÉ (Community and Family Engagement) Launch, Tuesday, Auguest 1 from 8:30 am to 1 pm at the Downtown Convention center at 124 S. Buchanan Street. Register here.
  • 2nd Annual Back to School Bash – Carencro Kiwanis Club will host a back to school bash on August 6 from 11 am to 2 pm at the Carencro Community Center. There will be free hair cuts, food and games. Receive a bingo card for cake bingo when brining in an item for the local schools’ comfort closets.
  • Community Honda will run a back-to-school supply drive from Monday, July 24, 2023 to Saturday, August 12, 2023. In honor of Sack 4 Support 4 Back 2 School. An annual community camaraderie event hosted by Once Was Inc, a local veteran community outreach nonprofit whose mission is honoring disconnected veterans. Donated items can be brought to Community Honda, information on what is needed can be found online at https://www.lpssonline.com/family-resources/supply-lists.

    Sack 4 Support 4 Back 2 School will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 from 11am to 1pm at Community Honda. Children from PreK to 12th grade with a military parent and children with a need will be honored with a sack of support. School supplies will be distributed by Veterans, Louisiana State Police Troop I, Lafayette Sheriffs Community Service Unit, and Lafayette Police Department. ST. LANDRY PARISH:

  • Southern Styles and Cuts & Roman Kings Back to School – Taking place on Sunday, August 13th on 920 Laurel Street, Eunice. Free haircuts, free supplies, and free food will be provided. For more information call: (337) 305-2548.
  • Backpack and Supply Giveaway Sponsored by Councilwoman Delita Rubin-Broussard – Taking place on August 5, 11 a.m. until at North City Park, 1648 Rodney Milburn in Opelousas. For all ages.
  • Macaroni Kid for Acadia-St. Landry – Pack the Park at Veterans Memorial Park in Port Barre on August 6 at 1pm. They will be handing out bags of school supplies while supplies last and local vendors with community resources.
  • Back 2 School Bash – Taking place August 5, from 10 am to 1 pm at 548 Haas Street in the Town of Krotz Springs. Hamburgers, water slides, foam pits, games and sports.
  • Fun Day and School Supply Drive will be held August 6 from 10 am to 2 pm at 1032 S. Railroad Avenue in Opelousas. Hosted by Councilwoman Chasity Davis Warren

ACADIANA:

  • Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive – Stuff the Bus has partnered with United Way of Acadiana to bring school supplies to the classrooms of Acadia, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Martin, and Vermilion Parishes. Teachers will be invited to a “shopping” day where they can choose the supplies they need for their classrooms free of charge. Needed supplies include: paper towels, hand sanitizer, Lysol spray, disinfecting wipes, Command hooks, Kinder Mats, Kleenex, towels, cardstock (colorful or white), construction paper, loose-leaf paper binders, crayons, scissors, glue, pencils, ink pens, and notebooks. Drop off donations from July 12 to July 20.

  • Day of Action – Join United Way of Acadiana for their Day of Action on Saturday, July 22nd. During the day, volunteers will have the chance to assist with several impact projects including organizing supplies for Stuff the Bus, packing bags for Resources for Developing Minds, and writing gratitude cards for educators.
