“I was loud and insane”: Angelina Jolie’s Fitness Commitment Made Her Life Easy While Shooting Deadly Stunts For $273 Million Movie
Born and raised in a star family, Angelina Jolie has been surrounded by the limelight from a very young age. Following in her parent’s footsteps, she also chose to have a career in Hollywood and has now become one of the highest-paid actresses of all time. However, fame and success also came with their own consequences, as she suffered from substance addiction for a brief period of her life. As she started moving ahead of these things, there were still certain things, including smoking and drinking, that she was unable to get rid of.
However, it began getting better after she starred in the 2001 action adventure Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Jolie has shared how she was able to opt for a healthier lifestyle while working on the film, and how it changed her life for real.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Changed Angelina Jolie’s Lifestyle
Following the fictional character in the Tomb Raider game series, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider featured Angelina Jolie alongside Daniel Craig, Jon Voight, and Iain Glen. The film follows Lara Croft as she tries to find an artifact before a secret society lays its hands on it.
While it did pretty well at the box office, critics did not feel the same while reviewing the movie. But the 2001 film helped the Maleficent actress with her personal issues quite a bit. The actress shared that she constantly smoked and drank before starring in the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider film series.
“I smoked a lot, drank far too much, had way too much coffee, and suffered from insomnia,” she shared. However, her fitness coaches for the film helped with her smoking and drinking problems, and the film also helped her get into shape for filming the stunts and action sequences in the film.
Jolie shared, “As for that role, I was loud and insane. I had too much fire for everyday life, so fitted into Lara Croft’s world perfectly.” The Eternals star has also claimed that it’s one of the scenes from the 2001 movie that convinced her to adopt her son, Maddox, after which she realized that being a mother is no less than being an adventure.

Angelina Jolie Fell in Love With Cambodia
Angelina Jolie briefly shot her 2001 film in Cambodia, and the actress claims that it was a “turning point” in her life. Filming in the sovereign state allowed her to meet new people and learn about their culture. And it was not something she had witnessed before. “I learned that the world is bigger than I thought it was, and there were more important things than a film,” she shared.
Jolie also shared that she had “never met such open-hearted people.” She fell in love with Cambodia and would return a year later to adopt her first child, Maddox. The eldest among her children would later assist his mother in filming the 2017 war drama First They Killed My Father, based in Cambodia. Maddox joined the film’s production and also assisted in research.
