More to Prove: Boston College to face Providence in NIT
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — For the first time since the 2017-18 season, Boston College will play in the postseason. The Eagles earned a bid to the 2024 National Invitation Tournament and will face Providence. The matchup was announced live Sunday night on ESPN2.
BC enters the 2024 postseason with a 19-15 overall record, finishing with an 8-12 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Eagles won four of their last five games and ended up playing in the ACC quarterfinals, falling 66-60 in overtime to Virginia on Thursday, March 14.
This is BC's 13th all-time appearance in the NIT. The Eagles have compiled an all-time 17-13 overall record, including a 5-3 mark in actual road games, in the prestigious postseason tournament. In 1969, BC advanced to the NIT championship in 1969 and to the semifinals three times. In its last NIT appearance on March 13, 2018, Boston College lost a 79-62 decision at Western Kentucky.
Boston College is 50-62 all-time in the series with Providence. The Eagles and Friars met for the first time on January 24, 1946 at Boston Garden. The NIT matchup will be the 113th meeting between the two programs, tying Holy Cross as BC's most common opponent.
In the last meeting between the two longtime rivals, Providence earned a 100-95 overtime victory at Conte Forum on December 4, 2018. This is the second time the Friars and Eagles will meet in the NIT ; PC took down BC, 75-58, on March 24, 1993.
