The 2022 NBA Champion concludes his career after 11 seasons
Forward Otto Porter Jr. has retired from the NBA, he announced today.
“Over the past 11 years, I have had the opportunity to live my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA,” said Porter Jr. “That dream culminated in winning an NBA championship! Unfortunately, my body does not allow me to play at the level I expect of myself and that is why I have decided to retire.”
Porter Jr. (6-8, 230, Georgetown) played 11 seasons in the NBA with the Washington Wizards (2013-19), Chicago Bulls (2018-21), Orlando Magic (2020-21), Golden State Warriors (2021- 22) and Toronto Raptors (2022-24). Selected in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft (third overall) by Washington, Porter Jr. competed in 527 career games (319 starts) averaging 10.3 points on 47.7 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from three, along with 4.9 rebounds. , 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals in 25.4 minutes per game, helping Golden State win a championship in 2022.
A native of Morley, Missouri, he was a two-year varsity player at Georgetown (2011-13), where as a sophomore he averaged 16.2 points on 48.0 percent shooting and 42.2 percent from beyond the goal, adding 7.5 rebounds. He, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals in 35.4 minutes per game. Following his senior season at Georgetown, he was named to the 2012-13 Consensus All-America First Team, Big East Player of the Year and selected to the All-Big East First Team.
