Planet Fitness hosts Franklin native, Alabama softball star Jenna Johnson for meet-and-greet | Sports
FRANKLIN – Planet Fitness in Franklin brought in Jenna Johnson, a former softball standout for Page High School who now plays for the University of Alabama, for a meet-and-greet event on Monday.
Fans and other members of the public could talk to and take pictures with Johnson along with picking up free gifts from Planet Fitness.
Johnson, who played travel softball for Fury Platinum and was the 2017 District 11-AAA MVP at Page, committed to Alabama in her freshman year of high school. She says this was because she preferred to play at a school in the Southeastern Conference and wanted to fulfill her dream of playing in the Women’s College World Series.
“Once I found Alabama, I just knew that was the place I wanted to go to for four years, and once I met [head coach] Patrick Murphy and saw the stadium there, I loved it, and so that’s where I wanted to go,” she said.
The choice proved to be a great one for Johnson, as the Crimson Tide have reached the Women’s College World Series twice in the past three seasons. Her favorite memory from her trips to Oklahoma City was playing in Montana Fouts’ perfect game in 2021 against UCLA.
“Just being able to be a part of that, and being able to have some RBIs in that game, and just play on that field and just get to see a moment in history, and be a part of that, was a really cool opportunity,” she said.
Alabama was one of eight teams to make it to the College World Series in the 2023 season, and Johnson recorded two hits and one stolen base in the Tide’s first game in the tournament.
Johnson’s younger sister, Lauren, is committed to play softball for Alabama beginning next spring after excelling on the field for both Centennial and Fury Platinum. Jenna says that getting to play with her sister at the collegiate level is “a dream come true.”
“We love playing with each other, we love hanging out with each other, so being able to have a teammate that’s also my sister is a really cool opportunity, and I’m very fortunate that I get to call my sister my teammate too,” she said.
The meet-and-greet event at Planet Fitness was made possible by a partnership Johnson has with the gym, and she is grateful for the work put in to organize and promote the event.
“It’s an awesome opportunity,” she said. “I just have to say thank you to the Planet Fitness organization, and all the things that they’ve been putting on to help this get out there and promote this event, because it’s been really cool.
“Just to get to come back home and do this event here has been a really cool opportunity.”
