General managers of some of the NHL's top teams have been busy the past two days before Friday's trade deadline.
The Carolina Hurricanes won the Jake Guentzel sweepstakes on Thursday night.
A day earlier, the Vegas Golden Knights acquired Noah Hanifin from the Calgary Flames, the best defenseman available on the trade market. This follows the trade of him for Washington Capitals forward Anthony Mantha on Tuesday.
Also off the market: Vladimir Tarasenko (Florida Panthers), Adam Henrique (Edmonton Oilers), Casey Mittelstadt and Sean Walker (Colorado Avalanche), Alex Wennberg (New York Rangers) and Anthony Duclair (Tampa Bay Lightning).
Here's who could still be in play before Friday's trade deadline at 3 p.m. ET:
Forward Frank Vatrano, Anaheim Ducks
General manager Pat Verbeek already landed a first-round pick and other draft picks by releasing Henrique, Sam Carrick and Ilya Lyubushkin, all pending unrestricted free agents. Vatrano has a term left on his contract. He is an All-Star for the first time this season with a career-high 29 goals. That includes 11 power-play goals and two shorthanded goals.
There are other players who could be moved on Friday to add intrigue to the trade deadline. Here's a look:
Forward Tyler Toffoli, New Jersey Devils
The Devils made a coaching change, but they seem less likely to make the playoffs. The contenders would be interested in the pending UFA Toffoli, who has 26 goals this season and 34 last season. He was excluded from the lineup Thursday night.
Forward Pavel Buchnevich, St. Louis Blues
He has one year left on his contract, so the Blues don't have to trade him now if they don't receive the right offer. He is on pace to surpass his career-best 30 goals and would fill a team's need for a top-six winger.
Defenseman Jakob Chychrun, Ottawa Senators
His name is out there because the Senators are loaded with top-notch left-shooting defenders and have signed Jake Sanderson long-term. Chychrun has one more year left on his contract. General manager Steve Staios said he's not actively pursuing anything with Chychrun, but said, “We're getting a lot of interest in all of our players.”
Forward Jason Zucker, Arizona Coyotes
He plays with an edge and would fit in the middle of a team. He was a linemate of Evgeni Malkin's in Pittsburgh.
Defenseman Matt Dumba, Arizona Coyotes
He already runs the offense, but he is a right-handed defender, averages 20 minutes per game and has 150 hits. But he and Zucker did not participate Thursday.
Forward Reilly Smith, Pittsburgh Penguins
He hasn't had a good season in Pittsburgh, but he won a Stanley Cup last season in Las Vegas.
Forward Tyler Johnson, Chicago Blackhawks
The pending unrestricted free agent won two Stanley Cup titles with the Tampa Bay Lightning and has 116 games of playoff experience.
Defenseman Erik Johnson, Buffalo Sabers
He has been left out of the lineup. He won a Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022.
Forward Ryan Johansen, Philadelphia Flyers
There's no guarantee he'll move, but Johansen, acquired in the Sean Walker trade, is not in the Flyers' long-term plans. General manager Danny Briere said he would try to fit in with another team. Otherwise, he has been assigned to the Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate.
